Connecting SpotDraft to ChatGPT

Last updated: August 24, 2026

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT questions about your SpotDraft contracts directly in a chat, like "find my last SpotDraft contract." ChatGPT calls SpotDraft in real time and returns results scoped to your own account access.

This is a one-time setup per user. SpotDraft connects as a custom MCP connector, which requires enabling Developer mode first.

Before you begin

You will need:

  • A ChatGPT account with access to Developer mode (currently rolling out; available on Plus and above in most workspaces)

  • Your organization's SpotDraft region URL, for example https://mcp.us.spotdraft.com/mcp (use the URL for your region: US, EU, IN, or ME. If unsure, please contact SpotDraft Support or your CSM)

  • A SpotDraft account to sign in with when prompted

Steps 1 and 2 requires a ChatGPT admin. If you're not an admin on your ChatGPT team plan, please reach out to one internally.

Once an admin has completed steps 1 and 2, you may directly skip to step 3.

Step 1: [Admin] Turn on Developer mode

Custom MCP connectors are gated behind Developer mode, since they connect ChatGPT to external servers outside OpenAI's review.

  1. As an admin, open ChatGPT and go to Settings.

  2. Select Security and login.

  3. Under Developer mode, toggle it on.

Note: ChatGPT flags Developer mode as Elevated risk. It allows you to add external connectors. SpotDraft is currently in the verification queue to be added to the ChatGPT directory.

Step 2: [Admin] Add SpotDraft as a custom MCP connector

  1. Go to SettingsPlugins.

  2. Select Browse plugins.

  3. Click the "+" button to open the New Plugin dialog.

  4. Fill in the connector details:

Field

Value

Name

SpotDraft

Description

Optional, e.g. "Query SpotDraft contracts"

Connection

Select Server URL

Server URL

https://mcp.<region>.spotdraft.com/mcp (use your region's URL)

Authentication

Select OAuth

  1. Check I understand and want to continue. ChatGPT shows this because OpenAI hasn't reviewed the SpotDraft MCP server, and warns that custom MCP servers introduce risk.

  2. Click Create.

Step 3a: If you're the admin, Sign in to SpotDraft in the dialog that appears

After creating the connector, ChatGPT prompts you to complete the OAuth grant. Follow the steps below:

  1. A dialog titled Add SpotDraft to ChatGPT appears.

  2. Click Sign in with SpotDraft.

  3. You'll be redirected to SpotDraft to log in and authorize access.

  4. Once approved, you're returned to ChatGPT and the connector is active.

Step 3b: If you're not the admin, log on to your own ChatGPT account.

If an admin has not performed steps 1 and 2, you will need those before you can perform step 3

  1. Go to Settings -> Plugins

  2. Click the "SpotDraft" connector that appears

If you have a lot of other connectors, you may need to click "Browse plugins" and find SpotDraft there.

  3. Click "Connect" on SpotDraft

  1. A dialog titled Add SpotDraft to ChatGPT appears.

  2. Click Sign in with SpotDraft.

  3. You'll be redirected to SpotDraft to log in and authorize access. Once approved, you're returned to ChatGPT and the connector is active.

Step 4: Try it out

Start a new chat and ask a question that requires SpotDraft data, for example:

"find my last SpotDraft contract"

ChatGPT will call the SpotDraft tool and return a result, for example:

If ChatGPT returns a result like this, the connector is working correctly.

Need help?

If the connector fails to authenticate or return results, check that:

  • You're using the correct region URL for your SpotDraft instance

  • Developer mode is still enabled in SettingsSecurity and login

  • Your SpotDraft account has the necessary permissions for the data you're querying
