Sending a Contract for Signature via Adobe Sign

Last updated: September 2, 2026

Overview

With the Adobe Sign integration enabled in your workspace, you can prepare and send Template, Send for Signature (uploaded), and TPP (third-party paper) contracts for eSignature directly from SpotDraft. There's no need to log into Adobe Sign at any point in the process, you place signature fields, set the signing order, and send the contract from the same screens you'd use for SpotDraft's native signing. SpotDraft creates the agreement, syncs it with Adobe, and pulls the signed document and audit trail back automatically once everyone has signed.

Before you begin: Ensure your workspace administrator has configured Adobe Sign as the default signing service for the relevant contract type or workflow. If you are unsure, check with your admin or CS team.

Adobe Sign can be set as the default at the following level depending on you workspace version:

  • Contract Type level: Manage → Contract Types → Signatories → Entity → Edit → Default eSignature Service → Adobe Sign

  • Workflow level (for migrated workspaces): Workflow Manager → Select the TPP Workflow → Signature Settings → Signing Services → Default Signature Service → Adobe Sign

What to Expect

What SpotDraft Does

What Adobe Sign Does

Creates the agreement with all recipients pre-populated

Hosts the actual signing page once the agreement is sent

Lets you place and assign signature fields directly in SpotDraft

Emails each signatory their signing link

Syncs signing status and per-signer progress in real time

Applies signatures and captures the audit trail as signatories complete their part

Pulls the executed document and Adobe's audit trail back automatically

Records every signing event in the activity log

The line between the two systems is simple: everything up to and including hitting send happens in SpotDraft, and the moment a signatory clicks their emailed link, they're on Adobe's page for the few seconds it takes to sign.

Step-by-Step: Sending a Contract via Adobe Sign 📝

Step 1: Create or upload your contract - Start a Template contract, a Send for Signature (upload) contract, or a TPP contract, whichever fits how this agreement originated.

Step 2: Complete intake and approvals - Fill in the intake form with the relevant contract detail

Step 3: Add recipients and signing order - On the contract summary page, add the signatories under the recipient card.

Step 4: Place signature fields in SpotDraft - Open the signature setup screen and drag fields onto the document for each signatory, just as you would for a native SpotDraft signature. Adobe Sign supports all of SpotDraft's field types: signature, initials, date signed, name, title, stamp, checkbox, and custom text (including address fields like city, state, country, and zip code).

Step 5: Review and send - Click Review and Send, then Send for Signature. SpotDraft creates the Adobe Sign agreement with your recipients and fields already in place and sends it in the same motion, there's no separate step to open or configure anything on Adobe's side.

Step 6: Signatories sign on Adobe - Each signatory receives an email directly from Adobe Sign with a link to review and sign. Clicking it opens Adobe's hosted signing page, where they complete their part.

Step 7: Status and documents sync back automatically - SpotDraft tracks signing progress in real time, both overall and per signatory, so you can monitor it from the contract summary page or the activity log without needing to check Adobe directly. Once all parties have signed:

  • The contract transitions to "Executed" in SpotDraft

  • The signed document and Adobe's audit trail are stored automatically against the contract

  • All signing events are recorded in the activity log

Monitoring & Activity Log 📋

SpotDraft's activity log captures the following events from Adobe Sign:

  • 🖊 Each signatory's individual signature

  • Contract completion, the executed document and Adobe's audit trail are stored automatically

  • 🚫 Agreement cancellations, if the agreement is voided, declined, or expires, the contract status updates in SpotDraft accordingly

Things to Know

  • File size and page limits apply. Adobe Sign supports documents up to 10MB and 100 pages by default (500 pages on Enterprise plans). If your document exceeds these limits, check your Adobe Sign plan with your admin.

  • Resending is handled by Adobe. Once a contract is sent, Adobe Sign manages reminders and resending on its own, so you won't see a Resend option in SpotDraft for these contracts (more on this below).
