DraftMate is a powerful tool that lets you add comments directly to your contracts within SpotDraft, making it easy to collaborate with your team.
This guide will walk you through the basics of using DraftMate, including how to add comments, categorize them, and resolve them.
Who is this guide for?
This guide is for all SpotDraft users who need to review and collaborate on contracts, including legal teams, procurement teams, and anyone else involved in the contract process.
Installing DraftMate:
- Copy the following link in brackets and paste on your browser (ms-word:https://api.addins.store.office.com/addinstemplate/en-US/7c19157c-abd3-47ed-a967-922c4d1605d2/WA200003995/none/DraftMate.docx?omexsrctype=1) to install DraftMate on Microsoft Word on your device. If Word is not installed on your device then the link will fail silently.
- If you are using the online editors - Microsoft Word for Web or OnlyOffice, then DraftMate will show up automatically and does not require installation from user's end.
Getting Started with DraftMate:
1. Adding Comments:

- Highlight the text: Select the part of the contract you want to comment on.
- Click "Add Comment": Click the "Add Comment" button in the DraftMate panel on the right side of the screen.
- Enter your comment: Type your comment in the box that appears.
- @Mention users: Use the "@" symbol to mention specific SpotDraft users to notify them directly.
- Categorize the comment: Choose whether the comment is for "Team" (internal collaboration) or "External" (to be shared with the counterparty).
2. Managing Comments:

- Reply to comments: Click on the comment you want to reply to and enter your response. You can also @mention users in your replies.
- Edit comments: Click the three-dot menu button on your comment and select "Edit Comment". Remember to re-mention users after editing.
- Notify a team member: Use the "@" symbol to mention a user's name. They will receive an in-app notification, email, and Slack notification (if Slack integration is configured).
- Resolve comments: Click the "Resolve" icon (check mark) to mark a comment as resolved. Resolved comments will have a "Resolved" tag.
- Reopen resolved comments: Click on a resolved comment and select "Reopen" from the menu or reply to the comment.
- Delete comments: Click the three-dot menu button on your comment and select "Delete Comment".
3. Using Comment Filters:

- Use the filter options in the DraftMate panel to quickly find the comments you need:
- All: Shows all comments.
- External: Shows only external comments.
- Team: Shows only team comments.
- For You: Shows comments relevant to you, i.e., the ones you have added or tagged in.
- Resolved: Shows comments that have been resolved.
- Use the filter options in the DraftMate panel to quickly find the comments you need:
- Downloading Contracts with Comments:
- Go back to the Contract Record in SpotDraft.
- Click the three-dot menu button.
- Select "Download".
- Choose your desired download option:
- Format: You can choose between Microsoft Word (.docx) and PDF (.pdf).
- Comments: You can choose to include "External Comments" or “Team Comments”.
- Click "Download".
Important Notes:
- DraftMate is designed to work with Microsoft Word documents. If your contract is in a different format (e.g., PDF), SpotDraft will convert it to Word.
If you use Microsoft Word comments, they will automatically be marked as "External".
